Hotel owner calls for harmonised tax system

Mr Faruk Aliyu, Managing Director, Hawthorn Suits and Hotel, has called on the Federal Government to harmonize the country’s tax system to help bring more investors in the country.
Aliyu made the call at a world press conference ahead of the grand opening of the hotel, in Abuja, on Wednesday.
“Nigeria is a good place to do business especially for people who knows how to go about doing business but for multiple tax system.
“In the hospitality industry, people talk about 20 different taxes or levies, like Value Added Tax, Bicycle Parking levies, among others.
“This discourages business and it makes things difficult.
“For us, we believe in Nigeria and want to invest in Nigeria because we are looking at the future which we know is bright,’’ he said
He said that it would be good for government to find ways to stop multiple taxation in the country to attract more investors.
Aliyu said that Hawthorn hotel would continue to empower the youths while running its business.
The General Manger, Mr Amin Saad said Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham, Abuja, is the first Hawthorn Suites in Africa.
He said the hotel had accommodation that would serve all kinds of guests.
According to him, Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham Abuja is a 108 Suite hotel offering guests single, double and suite accommodations.
Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham is part of Wyndham Hotels and Resorts, an international hotel and resort chain based in the United States.
Wyndham Hotels & Resorts is the world’s largest and most diverse hotel company, encompassing approximately 9,000 hotels and more than 600,000 rooms in 66 countries under twenty hotel brands.
Commenting on the hotel services, Saad said the property features complimentary hot buffet breakfast and high-speed wired and wireless internet access, infinity pool, fitness center, guest laundry, meeting spaces for up to 2000 pax and Wednesday evening social hour.
“Room’s features include wet bars, expanded cable television, and upgraded bedding featuring signature sweet suite bedding experience.
“Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham, member of the Wyndham Hotels & Resorts family of lodging brands, are extended-stay hotels located throughout the world, featuring studio, one and two – bedroom suites with fully equipped kitchens and wet bars.
Speaking on the economic impact of the hotel, Ms Udhedhe Olakpe, Project Director, said the hotel was fully local content compliant.
“ We made use of local products in tiling the flooring and wiring the building, while all the labour work were done by Nigerians.
She assured that the hotel would continue to project Nigerian Agenda for the growth and development of the country.
