AMAC Chairmanship: APGA aspirant promises democracy dividends
Mr Tonye Isokariari, an Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) Chairmanship aspirant on the platform of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) said would provide dividends of democracy to the residents of the area if elected
Isokariari, who said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Wednesday, stressed the need for grassroots development.
According to him, government should be about people, adding that his government will be about people, their priorities, aspirations and concerns.
“I am a passionate believer and advocate of local government inclusiveness and engagement; I also believe that government should be a force for good.
“ Local government in particular, should be about grassroots impact and empowerment, and so, my first and foremost reason for seeking office is to engage and include people in governance at all level.
“I seek to interest you in the business of governance at the local level by modelling and demonstrating how good governance can impact people , where they live, work and play.’’
Isokariari said that the spirit and purpose of government was representation adding that, “ It is my aim to represent you and your interests. ‘’
He said that he would uphold integrity and be held accountable to the people .
He said that in the current and past dispensation, local government had been anonymous and opaque.
The aspirant said his aim for contesting was to make things visible ,transparent and impactful to the benefit of all.
He said that he would operate an open system to listen to people and practice a direct participation process in decision .
Isokariari said that his resolve was to make government accessible to people, dialoguing with them regularly at town hall meetings .
This, he said was because he believed that the principle of governance was an imperative and guiding principle.
He appealed to the people of AMAC to use the 2019 election to usher in a new era of inclusiveness in governance .
The aspirant said that he would encourage inclusive citizen engagement that fostered understanding between the grassroots and local government leadership; eliminating misinformation and apathy.
He added that effective maintenance of existing amenities and development of new ones would be carried out, including reliable, accessible and good healthcare.
